Day 04 - Pamplona to Uterga (then to Puenta La Reina)
Today we managed about 2/3 of the planned walk.
Once again Alice in Blue and my comments in red.
Before we started I made soup, somehow I don't think I'm going to be the next Gordon Ramsay.
Today, we started off in the dark and walked through the city streets of Pamplona for 4ish kms.
What Alice diplomatically fails to mention was my visit to the local police station after the first couple of kilometres for an emergency baño stop.
Once we were out of the city, we walked along fields for most of the day.
We passed a few gorgeous buildings and towns before heading up to the Pilgrim Statues.
Here are my videos recorded walking up the hill.
It was so windy up here which made the steep decline that much more scary!
I rather enjoyed the decline because it was easier on my feet and blisters near the heel of my foot, but it was tough on Dad’s back. Having such loose rocks going down did make the decline feel very precarious which slowed us down a bit.
Here is Alice recreating the scene from The Way where Jost meets Sara for the first time:
A kilometre out of Uterga, Dad’s back had become quite bad so we pushed on to Uterga where we taxied the extra 6km leg to our albergue for the night. This turned out to be an excellent decision as we promptly ordered beer, cheesecake and carrot cake (which was delicious) and saw this adorable cat. Unfortunately the cat didn’t want any pats or cuddles 😭😭 which made me miss Nerva even more.
STATS: 18.43km in 5 hours with a total elevation gain of 431m.
